Aaron Booker
President
Hardlines Company
Aaron Booker began his career working for a hardware distributor, travelling to hardware stores and lumberyards throughout Southeast Alaska. He was the first PowerBook carrying salesman these businesses had ever seen. (His employer had never seen one either!). After 5 years of helping his clients grow their hardware businesses, Aaron fell in love with the Internet in 1995/1996 and built several very basic websites for the Hardware Industry, gaining lots of acclaim in the Hardware Trade Press. In 1996 Aaron got cocky and quit his day job and started an Internet Consulting business from his home in Bellingham, WA He figured that the internet was changing all the rules and that one could live anywhere. Sadly, the hardware industry is based in Chicago and that first attempt at a technology business fizzled out quickly. The local Apple Specialist needed a Part-Time PC Salesman, so Aaron waited for Windows NT 4.0 to ship (the first “real” Microsoft GUI OS in his opinion), learned NT 4.0, and started selling it. A few years later he was running the store. Aaron learned first-hand that traditional computer retailers are a horrible business to be in, as he wrote off tens of thousands of dollars in bad inventory, deeply cutting the stores accumulated inventory and attempting to steer it toward services. By 2000 he’d turned it around, had made it profitable, and was horribly burned out. He then took a sabattical year, living in Austin, TX and Matapalo, Costa Rica for most of the following year. Aaron is a member of HTG Peer Group 3 (www.htgmembers.com).
